  • Up to 10 candy apple sticks (skewers or chopsticks)
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Several drops food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon flavoring extract or 1 teaspoon flavor oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by greasing a cookie sheet or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Remove stems and stickers from the apples and insert sticks halfway into each apple. Set aside.
  3. In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir well and bring to a boil over medium heat. Attach your candy thermometer.
  4. Boil until the mixture reaches 310°F (154°C). Remove from heat and quickly stir in food coloring and flavoring until bubbling stops.
  5. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture one at a time, ensuring even coverage. Allow excess to drip off before placing on the prepared sheet.
  6. Let the candy coating cool completely before enjoying or wrapping for later.
