Ingredients

Scale
  • 56 firm apples (like Golden or Braeburn)
  • 100 g butter
  • 120 g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 roll of puff pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into quarters.
  3. In a cast iron skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add sugar, stirring until golden caramel forms. Mix in vanilla extract and salt if desired.
  4. Arrange the apple quarters in the caramel with rounded sides down and cook for about 10–15 minutes until slightly tender.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry over the apples, tucking excess edges inside the pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  7. Allow cooling for 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate to showcase the beautiful caramelized apples.
