Lamb Lahmacun, often referred to as Turkish pizza, brings the vibrant and aromatic flavors of Mediterranean cuisine right to your table. This delightful dish features a crisp flatbread base topped with a savory mix of ground lamb or beef, fresh vegetables, and fragrant spices. Finished with a drizzle of creamy tahini sauce and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, it’s perfect for family dinners, casual gatherings, or cozy nights at home.

  • 1 pound pizza dough (at room temperature)
  • 1 pound ground lamb (or a mix of ground lamb and beef)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 small red bell pepper (chopped)
  • ½ small red onion (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • ½ cup tahini
  • Small handful of fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 Persian cucumbers (peeled and diced)
  • 1 large tomato (seeded and diced)
  • Fresh mint leaves (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Water (to thin the sauce)
  • ½ small red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon ground sumac
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Drizzle of olive oil
  • Chopped parsley (optional)
  • Additional sumac
  • Aleppo pepper flakes
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface until thin, then transfer it to a baking sheet.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb (or beef), turmeric, cumin, paprika, chopped red bell pepper, onion, garlic, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  6. For the tahini sauce: Blend tahini, parsley or cilantro, garlic, lemon juice, and salt in a food processor until smooth. Add water as needed to reach desired consistency.
  7. Slice the Lahmacun and serve topped with diced cucumbers, tomatoes, fresh mint leaves, additional sumac, Aleppo pepper flakes, and drizzle with tahini sauce.
