  • 1 (12-ounce) jar maraschino cherries, reserving 1-2 tablespoons cherry juice
  • 1 3/4 cup (255 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate melting wafers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drain and chop maraschino cherries, placing them on paper towels to dry.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Using a stand mixer, cream butter and cream cheese until fluffy; gradually add sugar until pale.
  4. Mix in egg, almond extract, vanilla extract, and reserved cherry juice until well combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients on low speed; fold in chopped cherries.
  6. Chill dough for at least one hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet.
  8. Scoop dough onto prepared sheet and bake for 10 minutes or until edges are golden.
  9. For optional drizzle, melt white chocolate and drizzle over cooled cookies.
