Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 3/4 cups (345 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2/3 cup (130 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, plus 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. For the brownie dough, cream together room temperature butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt; then sift into the wet mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.
  4. For the cookie dough, cream cold cubed butter with both sugars until light and fluffy. Add in eggs and vanilla.
  5. Mix dry ingredients (flour, cornstarch, baking soda, salt) into the wet ingredients until combined; fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Scoop out both doughs into balls—combine one brownie ball with one cookie ball; place on prepared trays two inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8 to 9 minutes until edges are set; cool before serving.
