Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 can evaporated milk (12 oz)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Caramel: In a medium saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns golden amber. Quickly pour into a round baking dish to coat the bottom.
  2. Mix the Custard: Blend together evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Pour this mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  3. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the filled baking dish in a larger pan and add hot water halfway up the sides of the flan dish. Bake for about 50-60 minutes until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
  4. Cool and Serve: Let cool in the water bath before refrigerating for at least 4 hours. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a plate so the caramel flows over.
