  • 5 medium/large apples (Granny Smith & Macoun)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/41/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Homemade pie crust or biscuit dough

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and cube the apples. In a bowl, mix with lemon juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Cook the Filling: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add apple mixture and cook for about 3-5 minutes until slightly softened.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out your dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut circles (4-6 inches in diameter).
  4. Assemble the Hand Pies: Place one tablespoon of filling on half of each circle. Fold over and seal edges by crimping.
  5. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
